Splice Kitchen will be one of the first shared use kitchens in Chicago to open solely for foodservice professionals and small business owners to start, operate and/or grow their business. This shared-use kitchen in Chicago will give business owners the possible use of high grade commercial kitchens, office space, event space, and tons of resources without the commitment or overhead expenses associated with owning/operating commercial kitchen space. CropCircle Kitchen is Boston's only shared use kitchen and culinary business incubator. We took over operations from the former Nuestra Culinary Ventures in August 2009. We have re-invigorated the program and the space, currently supporting about 30 culinary entrepreneurs and their fledgling businesses. For our members, we provide technical support, training, oversight, and guidance through the early stages of a new food business. Our managers and directors have immense experience in the food industry from restaurants, to specialty food start-ups, to big-industry growing and processing enterprises. We have launched 35 businesses since August 2009, and our first crop of graduates headed out on their own fall 2010.

Our Kitchen includes roughly 3000sq ft of cooking space with stoves; convection and conventional ovens; ribbon blenders; 300sq ft each of cold and frozen storage; significant dry food and equipment storage; and access to specialty processing equipment including a pasta machine and a blast freezer. All equipment, space, and time can be rented, but only by our members or other companies who carry full health department, state, and federal certifications, as appropriate. Our Kitchen Space

The Culinary Studio is a 1900 sq. ft. commercial kitchen facility, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our space is divided into two kitchen areas.

A quick summary of our equipment is listed. The only items we ask our clients to bring are small wares such as utensils and scales, and disposable items (plastic wrap, foil, sheet pan liners, etc).

We can accommodate a wide range of needs, and support growing businesses. Whether its daily production runs or one time catering events for 200+ guests, we have the space.

Getting Started
Before reserving kitchen time with The Culinary Studio, as well as during any use of our facilities, clients must:
Apply for and complete food service plan review and licensure by the Oakland County Michigan Health Division.
Provide proof of an approved Certified Food Service Manager Certification
If producing food items for re-sale you must obtain a Michigan Department of Agriculture Food Establishment License.
Pay your $300 Security Deposit which is refundable.
Sign the latest Operating Agreement with The Culinary Studio, and receive the Culinary Studio Policy Handbook.
Provide proof of product liability insurance coverage with a minimum of $1 million dollars per occurrence and $2 million aggregate, with The Culinary Studio listed as additional insured and maintain such policy for the duration of any kitchen use.

The Starting Block Kitchen and Business Incubator is a nonprofit, regional economic development organization committed to small business development initiatives--for businesses just starting out, or companies outgrowing their current facilities. The commercial licensed kitchens are available 24/7 at affordable rates to help you grow your food production business.

Kitchen rental fees range from $10/hour for tabletop use, to $12/hour for general kitchen use, and $15/hour for use of the stoves, steam kettles, and fillers. Refrigerator, freezer, and dry pallet storage is available for rent--$75/month per pallet for refrigerator and freezer storage or $1.50 per cubic foot/month, and $10/month per pallet for non-secured dry storage.

Certified staff in food handling and equipment operation is available for assistance and training in food production, including measuring pH levels, batching-up recipes, and packaging and labeling.

Each producer needs a Michigan Department of Agriculture Food Establishment License to use the kitchen to make products for sale. On-site kitchen safety and sanitation training is required, as is product liability insurance.

The kitchen is also a USDA establishment and a FDA Food Canning Establishment for acidified foods.

Uptown Kitchen is a licensed commercial kitchen and event space that will be opening Fall 2011 in Grand Rapids.

The kitchen will include a catering kitchen, pastry kitchen, cool and dry storage, and a packaging area. It will be available at a hourly rate, 24/7. Ideal for small food businesses, entrepreneurs, chefs, and caterers.

Hourly rentals for Farmers' Market vendors, caterers, and food artisans that are in compliance with the KCMO Health Department are accepted. The space may also be used for customizable rentals for private events & celebrations, and for educational food classes and demonstrations too.

Full service kitchen space available for rent by hour or long term. Each space provides necessary preparation and cooking areas with shared spaces for dry goods and cold storage. Facility is available 24/7, 7 days a week. Business support services are also available to incubator tenants.
